Our Breathing Gift of GraceHoliday Devotional – Day 25

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–
and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

Ephesians 2:8 (NIV)

Every year at Christmastime, we think of the new year coming–and the chance to make it better than the last because of God’s gift of grace. We’ll grow as disciples of Christ, work toward new goals, accomplish much, and plan much more. The calendar keeps time, but God makes it all possible.

He takes our mistakes and missteps and gives us new opportunities in their place so that we can accept His grace and make better choices next time. It’s His love for us lived out loud in everything we do because of Jesus’ coming to life in this world with us. Without our Savior, a new day or new year or new opportunity would mean nothing. Because of Him, each moment means everything.

Jesus helps us start over and make things better whether it’s the new year or now–because we need a new beginning like the miracle of Christmas, and He says we can have it anytime we humbly ask and prepare to receive. God accepts our wounded hearts and erases everything that hurts–because of the greatest gift of our Jesus. Every year we have Christmas to remind us, and in every breath we have Him close enough to tell us.

Father, thank You for a festive read and green reminder of your greatest gift every year–the greatest gift that last forever!

Wrap a small empty box and hang it as an ornament or place it under your tree to represent God’s grace living through Jesus. The small box’s emptiness that your Children cant touch or photograph is like God’s grace that cant be contained because its limitless and Jesus is everywhere. Let the box be a reminder you bring out at Christmas each year.
