OverjoyedHoliday Devotional – Day 23

“After they had heard the king, the went on their way,
and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of
them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”

Matthew 2:9-10 (NIV)

Perhaps Baby Jesus wasn’t surprised by the “overjoyed” reaction of the wise men, because He has been doing everything for us “overwell” every since. He overloves us, overguides us and overprotects us–and the gift we’ve been given of Jesus’ overattention causes us to be overjoyed, too.

That’s because we learn His habits and His tendency to be overpresent in our lives–present when we call His name and present when we don’t even think about it. He’s presnet because He loves us more than we know and looks out for us more closely than we can understand.

He’s overinterested in everything on our minds, so no matter how small something may seem in relation to great concerns, Jesus cares and keeps His attention focused on our every through, hurt, fear, and feeling. He understands everything we can’t and sees all our situations and problems from every angle. He stands ready to help in every way we’ll allow. He just can’t do anything in a small way.

Christmas reminds us of the journey of the wise men to see Jesus–let is remind us of His journey to be with us, each one of us, with the overattention only he can provide.

Father, thank You for receiving our live and loving us back through Jesus more than we can understand.

Look at a book in the dark with a penlight–that represents often as much as we can see. Then look at the book with a spotlight or the brightest flashlight you have that’s how Jesus sees everything going on in our lives. He provides overcare for us, a gift of greater love, more than we can “see” and never less than we need.
